Mariah Carey (Mariah Carey; born March 27, 1969, Huntington, New York) is an American singer, songwriter, music producer, actress and philanthropist.
In 1990, under the direction of Columbia Records, she released Mariah Carey's debut album, which went nine times platinum and included four hit singles that reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Following her marriage to Tommy Mottola[en] in 1993 and the success of her albums Emotions (1991), Music Box (1993) and Merry Christmas (1994), Mariah Carey was named the most commercially successful musician in the history of the Columbia label.
Carey is one of the best-selling singers in music history - her CDs have sold over 200 million copies worldwide. In 1998 she was named the top-selling artist of the decade and in 2000 she was named the most commercially successful female singer of the millennium at the World Music Awards. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, she is the third most commercially successful singer whose albums have sold 63 million copies in the United States. In 2008, the song "Touch My Body" topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Carey the only artist in music history whose songs have topped the chart 18 times. She is also the winner of five Grammy Awards. In August 2015, the singer was awarded a name star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
