Boney M. (Boney M.) is a disco band formed in 1975 in Germany by the famous West German music producer Frank Farian. All of the performers involved in the project were born outside Germany, in the Caribbean islands, having moved to Western Europe as teenagers.
The members are Maisie Williams (1975-86, 1993-n.d.), Marcia Barrett (1975-86, 2009-n.d.),
Bobby Farrell (1975-81, 1984-86, 1991-2010), Liz Mitchell (1976-86, 1989-n.d.), Reggie Tsiboe (1982-86, 1989-1990)
The band's explosive success began with their first song, recorded in 1974 by German musician Frank Farian, who was experimenting with a new style. During the years of their creative work the members of the group released 9 albums and sold around 200 million copies of singles, which was registered in the Guinness Book of Records. This achievement has not been surpassed until now.
The group sold over 100 million records worldwide and are known for international hits such as "Daddy Cool", "Ma Baker", "Belfast", "Sunny", "Rasputin", "Mary's Boy Child/Oh My Lord" and "Rivers of Babylon".
Boney M. was one of the officially "allowed" foreign performers in the USSR. Some songs of the group such as Sunny (1976) were released in the USSR on records by "Melody" (all albums and compilations were later successfully sold in Russia). The group's songs were sometimes broadcast on the radio, and video recordings were occasionally shown on Central Television in the programs "Melodies and Rhythms of Foreign Variety", "Morning Post", etc.
