Investor loses $17.6 million on picture about “t.A.T.u.”

“In 2006 producer Sergey Konnov applied to my boss, businessman Igor Desyatnikov, with a proposal of investing into the picture “Ty e ya”, - says Desyatnikov’s press-secretary Vladimir Gunich. – The total budget of the film is $20 million, from which Igor Desyatnikov managed to invest $17.6 million – a part of it, based on an investment contract, and a part granted as a loan. The sense of the plot is the deputy Alexey Mitrofanov’s book about the band “t.A.T.u”. The picture was supposed to be released in the year of 2008, but actually the premiere will take place on February 3, 2011. That’s quite logical that now only few will get interest in this story. But the release’ rights were sold for $1.3 million. Moreover, even speaking of this money, Igor Desyatnikov will get nothing – in accordance with the documents, other investors’ expenses are covered”.
Initially, the film was to be called ”Finding t.A.T.u”, whereas the cinematized book of the ex-deputy Alexey Mitrofanov was called “TATU COME BACK”. The change of the names took place for the time irrelevance of the band comeback. As a result, the project was called “You and I”.
The main heroine of the picture is a 16-year-old American Jenny Sawyer, who has recently moved to Moscow and “fell in love” with the band “t.A.T.u.” Departing from her music interests, the heroine gets acquainted with a Russian girl of the same age Lana Starkova, and together they go to the band concert. But it doesn’t appear to be quite simple to get to the stadium in Moscow. A great deal of surprises and troubles await girls on their way, which eventually check the girls’ friendship.
The film producer is the owner of 6 Oscar awards Roland Joffe. The American Jenny is played by Misha Barton. The band “t.A.T.u.” 6 songs will sound in the picture.
Yet in May, 2008 the musical collective even visisted the 61st Cannes Festivalto present the film. However, the picture release was delayed for a number of reasons, and the band almost broke up for this time, terminating any joint activity. At present the premiere of the film in Russia is planned for February 3, 2011, and in the US – for February 6, 2011.
The picture investor is the Russian producer, actor and President Amazing Life, singer and banker Igor Iosifovich Desyatnikov. He became known, when many editions reported in December 2009 about the fact, that at Desyatnikov’s party the famous Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy passed away for overdose.
