Igor Yury Nikolaev (born January 17, 1960, Kholmsk, Sakhalin Oblast) is a Soviet and Russian musician, composer, poet, songwriter, singer, guitarist, pianist, producer, actor; People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2019). He was born in the town of Kholmsk (Sakhalin Oblast) in the family of Yuri Nikolaev (1935-1981), poet-mariner and long-distance navigation captain, member of the Union of Writers of the USSR, and Svetlana Mitrofanovna Nikolaeva (born June 12, 1938), accountant. One of his grandfathers is Chuvash. In 1974 he graduated from a music school in violin class and entered the Sakhalin music school in music theory. In 1975 he left for Moscow, where he continued his studies at the Music School of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. P. I. Tchaikovsky. In 1978 Nikolayev and his wife Elena had a daughter Yulia. He served in the song and dance ensemble of the Moscow Military District. Since 1980 Igor Nikolaev began working as a keyboardist and arranger in Alla Pugacheva's ensemble “Recital”. In 1980 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Culture (pop department, class of composer Igor Bril). In 1983 Alla Pugacheva recorded the first songs written for her by Igor Nikolaev: “Iceberg” and “Tell me, birds”. They were first performed in the program “New Year's Attraction 84”. In 1985 at the TV contest “Song of the Year” there were premieres of Igor Nikolaev's songs: “Ferryman” performed by Alla Pugacheva and “Komarovo” performed by Igor Sklyar. In 1986, Igor Nikolaev began his solo career with the song “Melnitsa”.
