“Zemlyane” is a Soviet and Russian rock band, one of the most notable bands of the ‘VIA’ period in Soviet music, bringing elements of rock music to the Soviet pop music. The Zemlyane group was formed by students of the Leningrad Radio Polytechnic in 1969. In September 1978, Zemlyane operator-administrator Andrei Bolshev took musician Vladimir Kiselev, drummer and organizer of the band April, as a companion, with the idea of gathering other musicians under the name Zemlyane. In 1980 “Zemlyane” together with other Soviet pop stars took part in the cultural program of the Summer Olympic Games in Moscow. Soon Vladimir Kiselev left the role of musician-percussionist and switched to administrative activities. In October, 1980 Romanov and Kiselev invite musician Sergey Skachkov to the band as a keyboard player. In October 1985, frontman and leader-guitarist Igor Romanov leaves the band. In 1986 Vladimir Kiselev tries to radically change the image of the new lineup: the musicians are changed. In autumn 1988 the founder of the ensemble Vladimir Kiselev parted with the group and organized his own production center in Leningrad. The management of Zemlyanami passes into the hands of the administrator Boris Zosimov. Having parted with the musicians of the “Express” version of the band, in 1990 Sergey Skachkov tries to join forces with Igor Romanov to resuscitate the early Zemlyans. By the fall of 1995 the band stabilized in the line-up: Sergei Skachkov - keyboards, vocals; Yuri Levachev - bass; Gennady Martov - guitar; Leonid Khaikin - drums; Mikhail Ivanov - keyboards and the Zemlyane start touring again. In the fall of 1999 a new drummer Anatoly Shenderov appeared. In March 2004 the former leader of the band Vladimir Kiselev again offered Sergey Skachkov to collaborate with him. Also there are changes in the line-up: Yuri Levachev and Alexander Dronov left the band, and instead of them Yuri Belov appeared on bass, and also former members of Zemlyans - Sergey Vasiliev and Boris Dolgikh returned. In the same year Andrey Khramov joined the band as the second vocalist and guitarist. In 2007, due to a number of creative reasons and disagreements, the ways of the group's founder Vladimir Kiselev and lead singer Sergey Skachkov separated again, as a result Kiselev claimed his rights to the name of the group, which he had been involved with since the first days of its creation, and later to the brand “ZEMLYANE”, in the fall recruited a new line-up of musicians, presenting them under the former name - “Zemlyane”. In the fall of 2010, Pavel Zibrov became the vocalist of the band. In 2012, Ruslan Shchukin returned to the collective as a vocalist. In 2018, Vladimir Kiselev changed the composition of the band. Andrei Khramov became the vocalist of Zemlyans again. In 2018, Vladimir Kiselev completely changed the composition of the band. Andrei Khramov became the vocalist of Zemlyans again. In 2019, the right holder of the ZEMLYANE brand became Bright Star LLC. The general director is Yuri Kiselev. In 2021, one of the founding fathers of Zemlyane, guitarist Igor Romanov, returned to the band.
