Army of Lovers is a Swedish pop band formed in 1987. They were famous for their extravagant looks, videos directed by Fredrik Boklund (some of which turned out to be banned on MTV) and costumes designed by Camilla Tullin. Alexander Bard was the brains behind the band, he also did the main vocal part for the hit "Obsession", Jean-Pierre Bard is the lead vocalist on hits like "Crucified" and "Israelism". They were in the band throughout its history; Barda often wore the most provocative and revealing outfits. More than 20 Army of Lovers songs made the EuroChart Top 10, the most famous being "Crucified," which proved to be one of the best-selling songs of 1991 and held the #1 spot on the EuroChart for eight weeks. "Obsession" and "Sexual Revolution" also reached the top of the Eurochart, although their presence in the US and UK was limited to multiple successes on the club charts The band has released 5 studio albums, more than 20 music videos and achieved great success in Europe. Army of Lovers has widespread fame and canonical status in gay culture, they are often cited as a fine example of postmodernity and extraordinaire.
