Bob Marley (real name Robert Nesta, born February 6, 1945, Nain Miles, Jamaica) is a Jamaican musician, guitarist, vocalist and composer. He is the best known performer in the reggae style. It is due to his international success that reggae has gained widespread popularity outside of Jamaica. Despite the fact that many years have passed since his death, Bob Marley is still the most famous reggae artist. It is because of his international success that reggae gained widespread popularity outside of Jamaica. At the age of 16, Bob Marley debuted with the single "Judge Not", which he wrote with Joe Higgs. In 1963, with the help of the same Higgs, Bob Marley organized the vocal group The Wailers. The group's first single "Simmer Down" (1964) topped the hit parade in Jamaica and sold more than 80 thousand copies. In late 1971 Bob Marley signed a contract with American singer Johnny Nash and wrote two hit songs for him: "Guava Jelly" and "Stir It Up". In 1972, The Wailers received a contract with Island Records and released the album "Catch A Fire", which was their first production to be released outside of Jamaica. The band's popularity grew, and the musicians were helped in many ways by Eric Clapton, who included The Wailers' composition "I Shot The Sheriff" in his album, which became an international hit. In 1973, the band undertook a tour of the United States. Bob Marley incorporated a female vocal trio into The Wailers, changed the name to Bob Marley And The Wailers and toured Africa, Europe and both Americas with his former mentor Higgs. By the mid-1970s, Bob Marley and his band had become recognized reggae leaders, and in the UK, virtually all of Marley's new songs were in the Top 40 and Top 10. Bob Marley died on May 11, 1981 from melanoma.
