Wham! ("Wham!") was a duo of George Michael and Andrew Ridgely that enjoyed huge success in the mid-1980s. In just two years (1984-1986), seven of their singles reached number one on the British pop charts.
In May 1984, the single "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" was released. It was their first true super hit: it reached number one in both the UK and the US.
In the summer of 1986, it was announced that the duo had split up Wham! A farewell concert was held at Wembley Stadium in London, and in June their last single together, "The Edge of Heaven", was released. Wham! served as a prototype for a number of "boy bands" of the late 1980s and early 1990s, with New Kids on the Block in the US and Take That in the UK topping the list.
