Happiness in a form of a song.
On November 24th Ukrainian Eurovision legends band Go_A is set to release their
new single, "Dumala," which explores the themes of faithfulness and loyalty during
the hard times. The song revolves around a girl who faced misfortune at her dear
home but chose to remain by her loved one's side, despite being tempted to
leave with a wealthy man to the foreign lands.
Drawing inspiration from various Ukrainian folklore pieces and motifs, the song has
completely original lyrics, written by the lead singer Kateryna Pavlenko. The vivid
motives of the song are played on the traditional Ukrainian sopilka flute, which has
become one of the band's signature elements.
Release of "Dumala" is accompanied by a music video, which is a drawn
animation. The video presents a compelling fairytale, telling a story of a young girl
living in a village, where the people truly believe that wealth, fame and successful
marriage are the keys to happiness. However, the girl believes that happiness lies
beyond all this.
When a thunderstorm strikes the village, panic spreads, and people run to save
their belongings. In contrast, the girl remains calm, as her most cherished thing is
her home and she was not planning on letting it go. A few brave men choose to
stay and save the village, and the girl, in turn, uplifts their spirits, lighting the way for
them through the darkness. That day, everybody realised that misery doesn’t ask if
you are wealthy or what kind of breed you are. The misery comes to give as a
challenge and our future depends on how we pass it. Only when it’s getting dark,
you can see those who can shine.
"Dumala" has the same moral. Despite playful motives and the melody that makes
you dance, the song tells the powerful tale and guides listeners through the
darkness, showing that the most cherished things we have are what we truly love.
There is a belief that people who were born on Wednesday have a bad luck. “I
was born on Wednesday, people say - such a misfortune!” This song is dedicated
to everyone who is considered “a misfortune”, people who were born on
Wednesdays, with a message that everything is possible is we stay true to our
values.
