The album ‘LIGHTHOUSE’ contains this message in almost every song, starting with the new focus track ‘Might Have Been A Dream’. It's a song about darkness and light, with quiet introspective verses that explode into a dynamic chorus, sung with characteristic passion by frontman Sviatoslav Vakarchuk and accented by a sharp guitar solo.
This is evident throughout LIGHTHOUSE, which calls for endurance over a military rhythm in ‘Love On Fire’ and reflects on the pain of separation - now a universal experience for Ukraine - in the dramatic ballad ‘Favourite Sound’. There are also lighter moments, with the driving alternative rock of ‘Running Away’ and the energetic pop-punk of ‘Nowhere’. However, Okean Elzy return to their roots with the final track ‘Lullaby’, their version of the 1980 Ukrainian classic by Kvitka Tsysyk.
Sviatoslav adds: ‘When the great war began, it became obvious that we had to share Ukrainian culture with the world more. To tell about ourselves using such powerful tools as culture, music and art in general. Creating songs in English became necessary so that people from all over the world could experience our music. Listening to our first English-language album, you will hear a different approach to arrangements, production and even the way I sing. Working with different producers and with a different sound gives you a different vision and experience - it enriches you, and I love it.’
