"Ivan Kupala" is a Russian electronic band working in the style of ethnic music. It was formed on August 17, 1998 in St. Petersburg by Alexey Ivanov, Alexey Rumyantsev and Denis Fedorov. The distinctive feature of the band's creativity is the use of authentic folklore as a basis for their works, mainly recorded during ethnographic expeditions by Soviet folklorists in 1970-1980.
At the 1999 and 2000 Ovation Awards, the band won in the category "Folk Group of the Year".
In its official discography, Ivan Kupala has 3 numbered albums, a remix album, a maxi-single and a collection of the best songs. The release of the last studio album to date, Homeland, took place on the Night of Ivan Kupala - from July 6 to July 7, 2012. The band celebrated the album release with a big night concert-presentation at the festival "Nashestviye".
The song "Kostroma" of this band was used at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. In 2017, the collective stopped touring activities, returning to the studio format, and also announced that there would be no more new albums in their work.
In 2023, the band announced the release of their last album Rodina on physical media (11 years after the presentation) on the Maschina Records label and the first official release in many years - a new version of the previously unreleased (but performed at concerts) song "Field" as the soundtrack to the movie At Pike's Will.
