Singer-songwriter Jerry Heil, who recently became a member of The Recording Academy, has released a poignant track ALL EYES ON KIDS. This song is a powerful call to the world to pay attention to the tragedy of Ukrainian children illegally deported by russia. Along with the release of the track, Jerry Heil has also launched a social video and initiated the #AllEyesOnKids campaign, emphasizing the urgent need to protect and return abducted children to their homes.
"There are tens of thousands of stories about Ukrainian children abducted by russia, but only 388 have returned home. It's heartbreaking to realize that this issue remains almost invisible in the media, both in Ukraine and globally. Meanwhile, everyone understands that the future of a country lies with its children. russia understands this too, cynically stealing their childhood by taking them to its own or occupied territories, in an attempt to steal Ukraine's future as well.
When I learned about these horrifying numbers, I realized I couldn't write about anything else. We must speak, shout, sing about this, and do everything possible to make the world know, talk, and help bring each one of them home," shares Jerry Heil.
Accompanying the song is a social video, featuring 14-year-old Kira Obedinska from Mariupol as the main character. The video was directed by Jerry Heil herself.
After losing her mother in early childhood, Kira was raised by her father, Yevhen Obedinsky, a former captain of Ukraine's national water polo team. The full-scale invasion caught the family in Mariupol. During one of the shellings by russian occupiers, Kira's father was killed. In an attempt to escape the city, Kira was injured by a landmine and was abducted by the occupiers. She was taken to Donetsk, which is not under Ukrainian control, but thanks to her grandfather's efforts, Kira was eventually brought back to Ukraine.
The video symbolizes the difficult and painful journey of abducted children back to their homeland, their relentless determination, and their faith in returning. In the final scene, Kira finds warmth and safety once again in her grandfather's embrace. This touching moment underscores the unbreakable strength of family bonds and offers hope that every child abducted by the occupiers will find their way back to reunite with their loved ones.
"What will keep the connection between a child, who is being reprogrammed with new principles and ideas of the 'russian world,' and their parental home? What will be their light in a country where darkness prevails even in broad daylight? I believe it's a mother's song. A lullaby that will guide the child home, whether physically or in thoughts," Jerry Heil says.
ALL EYES ON KIDS is a dialogue between a mother, who promises that her light will burn and guide the child home, and a child, who walks through the darkness, guided by the thread
of light that sounds like a mother's lullaby. This quiet but unwavering beacon helps the lyrical hero find their way back to those who love and wait for them.
