Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have unveiled their latest film score. Today, the duo released "Challengers [MIXED]" by Boys Noize, the score for Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film remixed as a contentious DJ set by Boys Noize.
Spanning 28 minutes, "Challengers [MIXED]" sees Boys Noize reimagine the nine songs Reznor and Ross made for the score, adding additional production and leaning into its synth-driven, electronic feel. The duo “hand-selected” Boys Noize for the project.
“It’s been a fun challenge to turn this into one fluid experience and take it even further by redesigning the tracks, creating new elements and changing certain parts,” Boys Noize said in a statement. “Especially on ‘Compress / Repress,’ which turns super epic in the end. Working with Trent and Atticus has been a dream come true; they’ve been so great and helpful during the entire process.”
"Challengers" itself stars Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist as tennis players entangled in a steamy net of competition and passion. The film premieres in theaters on Friday, April 26th via Amazon MGM Studios.
The score for "Challengers" is just the latest in a line of films scored by Reznor and Ross, including last year’s "The Killer" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". In a recent interview, the duo revealed plans for a new Nine Inch Nails albums, as well as the launch of their own media company.
As for Boys Noize, the DJ recently appeared on the Shygirl track “tell me.” Next month, he’s booked to perform at the 2024 iteration of the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, followed by a date in Austin, Texas.
