March 8 in music history

Today's birthday:

65 years to the musician Gary Numan.
Gary Numan is a British rock musician, singer, songwriter and one of the leading performers of the British New Wave. Newman is considered to be one of the pioneers of commercial electronic music; he has been called the "king of synth-pop" and the "godfather" of electronica. Newman's musical style, which combined elements of kraut-rock, punk and glam, with a dark lyricism and massive use of synth sound, influenced the development of goth-rock, darkwave and industrial. His compositions have been covered extensively by artists such as Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Dead Weather, Basement Jaxx, Fear Factory and many others.
