Recently, new models of music artificial intelligence (AI) have emerged that promise to fairly compensate music rights holders and musicians. A great example of this is the new partnership between the startup Beatoven and the licensing company Musical AI.
Founded in 2022, Beatoven already has a library of music created using AI. They are now working on an "AI-based full song generator," which they plan to launch by the end of 2025. Importantly, the model is trained on over 3 million licensed songs, samples, and sounds. Rights holders will not only be compensated for their works used to train the model, but they will also receive a share of the profits from the music generated by this model.
Musical AI assists with data licensing, usage tracking, and payments to rights holders. They will also offer a new licensing model to other clients. CEO Sean Power noted that there are no longer any excuses for mismanaging music rights— they are demonstrating this through their new service.
