TikTok under Threat: Possible Ban Has Sparked Controversy in Trump's Cabinet

There is a possibility that TikTok could be banned in the United States. The question of a ban has sparked controversy among members of Trump's cabinet, with some supporting it.

The idea of banning TikTok originated during the Trump administration, but the legislation for the ban was officially passed only during Biden's presidency. Interestingly, Trump himself seems to have changed his stance on the issue, even registering on TikTok and urging users to vote for him to "save TikTok."

TikTok's management believes that their only chance of avoiding a ban planned for January 2025 is Trump's return to power. However, a new administration initiative called Project 2025 aims to maintain the TikTok ban, labeling it as a "tool of Chinese espionage" and proposing to make it illegal.

Brendan Carr, who would become the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission if Trump is re-elected, stated that tackling big tech, including the TikTok ban, will be one of his priorities. John Ratcliffe, Trump's nominee for CIA director, also believes that TikTok poses a national security threat and should be banned.

Even press secretary Caroline Levitt supports the TikTok ban, arguing that the platform negatively affects young people: "For many young people, it’s their primary source of news, and that really creates issues in our society." She also emphasized that control over TikTok lies with the Chinese government, which could be dangerous.
