ADOR Denies Contract Termination with NewJeans Amid Controversy

K-pop label ADOR has officially denied claims that their contract with NewJeans has been terminated, following an emergency press conference held by the group on November 28.

The press conference came two weeks after NewJeans issued a legal notice alleging breaches of contract and warning of termination if their concerns weren’t addressed. The group announced their decision to sever ties with ADOR, shocking fans and igniting industry speculation.

However, ADOR countered the statement in a press release, asserting that the contracts remain valid. “We regret that the press conference regarding the termination of the exclusive contract was planned and conducted without sufficient review,” the label stated. They further emphasized, “A unilateral claim of breach of trust does not constitute valid grounds for terminating the contract.”

In response to NewJeans’ legal notice, ADOR highlighted steps they’ve taken to address the group’s demands. These measures include resolving conflicts with a music video director, obtaining an apology from a Belift Lab manager accused of inappropriate comments, and reinstating former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin.

The agency acknowledged that some demands were either “too abstract” or exceeded their authority but affirmed their willingness to collaborate and resolve issues. ADOR stated, “We are willing to share progress updates regularly and hope to maintain communication with the artists.”

Despite ADOR’s reassurances, they claim NewJeans have refused to engage in discussions about their 2024 plans. “Out of respect for them, we have not forced attendance at meetings,” ADOR said, adding that they remain committed to supporting the group’s future activities.
