A fan’s night out at Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism tour stop in Kuala Lumpur turned into an ordeal after he was struck by a metal pyrotechnic tube during the singer’s second performance at the Axiata Arena on November 24. The incident left him with a head injury requiring seven stitches.
The fan, who shared his story on Reddit, described how the accident occurred just 15 minutes into Dua Lipa’s set. Standing close to the stage near a pyrotechnic cannon, he was hit by a 5-7 kg metal tube that had come loose. Images he posted show blood streaming down his face as medics tended to him.
Rushed to the hospital for a CT scan, the fan fortunately sustained no skull fractures but did require stitches and a tetanus shot. His wife witnessed the incident and immediately sought help from security. Another woman was reportedly injured when the tube ricocheted off his head before hitting her.
The injured fan explained that the concert organizers initially offered to cover his medical bills, but later discussions included potential compensation for his hotel, flight, and concert tickets. However, he stated that he was not ready to negotiate until consulting his lawyer, embassy, and possibly the police.
“They paid my hospital bill cause I have no such money for that,” he said, adding that he’s seeking “fair compensation for what felt like a near-death experience.”
This incident follows another hiccup in Dua Lipa’s Asia tour, as the singer recently canceled a scheduled performance in Indonesia due to “safety issues with the staging.”
Despite the mishap in Kuala Lumpur, Dua Lipa continues to shine on the global stage. Recently, she wowed fans at a special orchestral concert at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall, where she performed alongside Elton John. The show, recorded for an ITV special, will air on December 8.
