Fans of the Goo Goo Dolls in South Africa will have to wait a bit longer to see the iconic band live. The group announced today (December 3) that their upcoming shows in Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria have been postponed to March 2025 after frontman John Rzeznik was hospitalised with pneumonia.
Breaking the news from his hospital bed, Rzeznik shared a heartfelt message with fans. “I’m truly sorry that I cannot be there,” he said. “I wound up going to the doctor and I have pneumonia, and they checked me into the hospital. I’m stuck here for a day or two.”
The band also took to social media to express their disappointment. “We’re heartbroken to postpone our South Africa shows,” the statement read. “This country means so much to us, and we were so excited to create more memories with you. Sadly, my doctor has advised rest and recovery.”
The rescheduled dates will see the Goo Goo Dolls perform in Cape Town on March 25, followed by Durban on March 27 and Pretoria on March 29. Tickets for the original shows will remain valid for the new dates, though refunds are also available for those unable to attend.
Fans can look forward to hearing hits like Iris, which recently featured on the Deadpool & Wolverine soundtrack, as well as tracks from their latest album, Chaos In Bloom (2022). Earlier this year, the band released the single Beautiful Lie, showing they’re still delivering music with emotional depth and energy.
