Zayn Malik honored the memory of his late One Direction bandmate Liam Payne with a heartfelt tribute during his show at The Halls in Wolverhampton on Friday night (November 29).
Taking a moment to connect with the crowd, Malik said, “I’ve been doing something at the end of every show, and it’s dedicated to my brother Liam Payne.” The evening held special weight, as Wolverhampton was Payne’s hometown.
At the close of the performance, Malik projected a tribute on the screen behind him, featuring Payne’s birth and death years alongside the words “Love you, bro.” He then dedicated a stirring rendition of his song ‘iT’s YoU’ to Payne, telling the audience: “Rest in peace. I hope you’re seeing this in your hometown tonight, Wolverhampton. This is for you, Liam.”
This wasn’t the first time Malik paid homage to his late bandmate. His opening UK tour show in Leeds on November 23 included a similar tribute, occurring just days after Payne’s funeral on November 20 in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. The somber service was attended by Cheryl, Simon Cowell, and the other members of One Direction.
Payne tragically passed away on October 16 after a fall from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. An autopsy later confirmed the cause of death as multiple traumatic injuries and internal bleeding.
In light of Payne’s passing, Malik postponed the US leg of his tour, which will now resume in January 2025.
