Mariah Carey is setting the record straight after fans speculated that her 2024 Spotify Wrapped thank-you message was AI-generated.
The Songbird Supreme took to X (formerly Twitter) on December 5 to clear up the confusion. “Bad lighting and a red lip have you all thinking this is AI??” she quipped, reposting the video from a fan account. “There’s a reason I’m not a fan of either of those things!”
In the festive video, Carey, dressed in a Santa-inspired outfit, thanked her top listeners on the platform. “Your support through the years is the greatest gift I could ask for,” she shared. “This year, we’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of my album Merry Christmas... I can’t wait to share new music with you soon.”
The video sparked a debate among fans, with some questioning its authenticity. One person even joked, “It must be hard being so gorgeous that nobody believes you’re real.”
Carey’s message was part of a special initiative for Spotify Wrapped 2024, where top artists recorded personal thank-you videos for their fans. In addition to personalized streams, the platform revealed its overall most popular artists, with Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Bad Bunny topping the charts.
Currently on her 2024 holiday tour, Mariah will perform in Baltimore on December 7, wrapping up her tour on December 17 in Brooklyn.
