It seems Britney Spears isn’t packing her bags for Mexico just yet. Despite telling fans in an Instagram video earlier this week that she had left the U.S. to escape “cruel” paparazzi, sources have confirmed that the pop icon is staying put for now.
In the now-viral clip, Britney opened up about her struggles with the media. “They’ve always been incredibly cruel to me, the paparazzi and pictures, and the way they’ve illustrated me to be,” she shared. “I know I’m not perfect at all, by any means, but some of it is extremely mean and cruel, and that’s why I’ve moved to Mexico.” The post came shortly after she celebrated her 43rd birthday.
Just days later, Spears posted another video, this time modeling a sleek blue cocktail dress while house-hunting. “I’m so blessed!!!” she wrote. “Thank you, Jesus, for a place so far away from America!!!”
Whether Britney is genuinely considering a move or simply stirring the pot remains unclear. The posts follow her recent legal separation from ex-husband Sam Asghari and the announcement of a biopic adaptation of her memoir, The Woman in Me. Directed by Wicked filmmaker Jon M. Chu, the project aims to explore themes of fame, control, and the treatment of women in the spotlight.
While Chu has hinted the biopic might take a creative approach, Britney seems to be in on the fun. Back in September, she teased on Instagram, “The project I might be doing isn’t a biopic story… it’s a fictional musical where I play an extremely intelligent character!!!”
