Google has unveiled its list of the most-searched topics in the UK for 2024, and music played a starring role in the trends of the year. Topping the charts was none other than Oasis, whose highly anticipated reunion sparked a frenzy online.
The announcement of the band’s return to the stage — with massive stadium shows across the UK and Ireland next summer — ignited a wave of nostalgia and excitement. According to Google’s statistics, “How to get Oasis tickets” was the second most popular ‘How to’ search in the UK, second only to “How to vote in the UK.” Fans crashed Ticketmaster and endured hours-long queues as demand for tickets skyrocketed.
Adding fuel to the fire, Oasis later confirmed a global tour with dates across North America, South America, Australia, South Korea, and Japan, cementing their status as one of the year’s biggest music stories.
Other music-related searches dominated the rankings, with Sabrina Carpenter, One Direction, and Dave Grohl following Oasis in the top spots. RAYE also made waves, thanks to her record-breaking wins at the BRIT Awards and electrifying sets at Reading & Leeds. Coldplay’s announcement of their new album Moon Music and Glastonbury headline slot, as well as Linkin Park’s comeback tour and new album From Zero, kept fans searching.
Tragically, Liam Payne, the former One Direction member who passed away in October after a fall in Buenos Aires, was the second most-searched of the year, behind only the Euros.
In film, searches were dominated by titles like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Inside Out 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine, while TV audiences were captivated by series such as Fool Me Once and Fallout.
