Coldplay is back, and they're making waves not just with their music but also with their innovative approach to sustainability. Their upcoming album, "Moon Music," set to release on October 4, will be available on vinyl made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. Yes, you read that right—recycled plastic bottles.
Produced by the legendary Max Martin, who has worked with the likes of Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Katy Perry, "Moon Music" promises to be a sonic delight. The album's first single, "feelslikeimfallinginlove," will hit the airwaves this Friday, June 21.
The eco-friendly vinyl is a game-changer. Each copy of the album contains nine recycled PET-plastic bottles, preventing the manufacture of over 25 metric tonnes of new plastic and reducing CO2 emissions by 85% compared to traditional 140g vinyl. Talk about leaving a lighter footprint on our planet!
But the green revolution doesn't stop there. The CD versions of "Moon Music" will be the first in the world released on 'EcoCD,' created from 90% recycled polycarbonate sourced from post-consumer waste streams.
For the super fans, there's a limited "Notebook Edition" of the album. This edition is a casebound hardback book, a faithful replica of frontman Chris Martin's original studio notebook. It features 28 pages of notes, lyrics, and illustrations that offer a peek into the creative process behind the album.
Coldplay has been teasing their return over the past few weeks. On June 7, they shared a snippet of a new song on Instagram with the caption "first time," and six days later, they officially announced the song's title as "feelslikeimfallinginlove." They also debuted the single live at their show in Budapest's Puskás Aréna on June 16, sending fans into a frenzy.
The band has hinted that they might stop releasing albums after 2025. In a 2021 interview with Jo Whiley, Chris Martin mentioned that their "last proper record" would come out in 2025. After that, they plan to focus solely on touring and possibly some collaborative projects.
This year, Coldplay will headline Glastonbury Festival, becoming the first act ever to top the Pyramid Stage bill five times, after their performances in 2002, 2005, 2011, and 2016.
