Justin Timberlake has finally broken his silence on the “tough week” he’s had following his DUI arrest earlier this week.
The Grammy-winning artist was pulled over on June 18 in Long Island, New York for “driving while intoxicated.” According to the New York Post, Timberlake claimed he had only consumed “one martini” before hopping into his car to follow friends home.
Last night (June 21), Timberlake returned to the stage in Chicago, resuming his tour with a heartfelt performance. Taking a moment to address the crowd, he expressed his gratitude for their unwavering support. “We’ve been through ups and downs, lefts and rights. It’s been a tough week, but you’re here, I’m here, and nothing can change this moment right now,” he shared, wiping a tear from his cheek.
He continued, “I know sometimes I’m hard to love, but you keep on loving me, and I love you right back.”
Before the show, Timberlake’s lawyer, Ed Burke, commented on the arrest: “The charge was a single count because he refused the breath test. Mr. Timberlake was also charged with two other court citations, running a stop sign and not travelling in the correct traffic lane.” TMZ reports that the former *NSYNC star is due back in court on July 26.
Interestingly, it appears the arresting officer didn’t recognize Timberlake. Allegedly, Timberlake muttered, “This is going to ruin the tour,” to which the officer responded, “What tour?” Timberlake replied, “The world tour.”
The singer is set to perform two shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden next week (June 25 and 26), despite the legal hiccup.
