Iconic synth-pop pioneers New Order have responded to swirling rumors about a new album and a 2025 world tour, quashing fans’ hopes of imminent news. The band, whose last studio album Music Complete dropped to critical acclaim in 2015, took to their website to clarify the situation.
“We always want to keep our fans informed of the latest news about New Order, and we always share official news across our social media channels,” the statement read. “We are aware of news that claims the band will be releasing a new studio album and will be embarking on a world tour, news that is incorrect.” The band urged fans to rely on official social media platforms for any future announcements.
Although it’s been nearly a decade since their last full-length release, New Order returned briefly in 2020 with the standalone single Be A Rebel. Speaking at the time, drummer Stephen Morris described it as “very dance-y” and hinted it could pave the way for more material. Yet, the band has remained quiet on the new music front since then.
Their 2015 album Music Complete marked a significant moment for the group, featuring the return of keyboardist Gillian Gilbert and standing as their first record without bassist Peter Hook.
Despite no plans for fresh music or live shows, New Order continues to honor their legacy. In September, they unveiled a deluxe box set reissue of their 1986 album Brotherhood, which gave the world the classic hits "Bizarre Love Triangle" and "State of the Nation."
