A Brooklyn priest who approved Sabrina Carpenter’s Feather music video shoot inside Our Lady Of Mount Carmel-Annunciation Parish has been permanently removed from his role following a series of controversies.
The video, released in October 2023, featured Carpenter dancing in the church, alongside provocative visuals including a coffin inscribed with “RIP b*tch.” While the clip showcased Carpenter’s signature playful energy, it sparked outrage within the religious community, with critics calling it disrespectful due to her attire and the setting.
Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, who authorized the shoot, initially defended his decision as an attempt to connect with younger, creative members of the parish community. However, he later apologized, claiming the final video was far from what he had been told to expect.
Now, Gigantiello has been further stripped of all pastoral duties due to newly uncovered allegations of corruption. According to Bishop Robert Brennan, an investigation revealed unauthorized financial transfers made by Gigantiello to a former aide of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, raising serious concerns about his conduct.
The combination of the music video backlash and the financial scandal has led to Gigantiello’s complete removal. Bishop Witold Mroziewski has been appointed as his replacement to lead the church during this tumultuous period.
In other Sabrina Carpenter news, the pop sensation is gearing up for her Netflix holiday special, A Nonsense Christmas, premiering December 6. The festive show will feature appearances by Chappell Roan, Tyla, Quinta Brunson, Cara Delevingne, Kyle Mooney, and Megan Stalter, promising plenty of holiday cheer and humor.
