The Songwriters Hall of Fame just dropped a powerhouse list of nominees for its 2025 class, and it’s nothing short of legendary. Announced last night (November 12), the nominees span multiple genres and eras, showcasing songwriters who have defined pop, hip-hop, rock, and beyond. This year’s lineup is divided into two categories: performing and non-performing songwriters, with only six nominees—three from each category—ultimately earning the coveted spot.
In the performing songwriters’ list, we have icons like Eminem, Janet Jackson, and Boy George, along with N.W.A., Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Bryan Adams, and George Clinton, each celebrated for both their groundbreaking hits and lasting impact on the music industry.
The non-performing category shines a spotlight on behind-the-scenes hitmakers who’ve crafted some of music’s most unforgettable tracks. This year’s nominees include Mike Chapman, Sonny Curtis, Franne Golde, Rodney Jerkins, and Roger Nichols.
Voting members have until December 22 to cast their ballots, with the six new inductees slated to be announced early next year. These chosen few will be officially honored at the 2025 Induction & Awards Gala in New York City, set for June.
Looking back, the 2023 class saw luminaries like Snoop Dogg, Jade, and Jeff Lynne of ELO inducted, while last year’s honorees included R.E.M., Timbaland, and Steely Dan, with special awards going to SZA and Diane Warren. The 2025 lineup promises to carry on this tradition of excellence, celebrating the timeless power of songwriters and their art.
