A recent report commissioned by German music organizations analyzes the economic value of music in the country. Prepared by the consulting company Oxford Economics, it points to revenue of about 17.4 billion euros in 2023 and notes that "the corresponding gross value added was about 6.6 billion euros."
According to the study, the number of people employed in the industry has reached 156,000, confirming its role as a major employer. The report also highlights how music contributes to the development of other sectors such as tourism, broadcasting and technology.
Comparisons with other industries are also provided: gross value added in the beverage sector in Germany amounted to about 8.5 billion euros in 2023, and in data processing and web hosting — about 4.7 billion euros in 2019.
