The 50 States of Music website is the result of collaboration between key organizations in the U.S. music industry and visually demonstrates the economic impact of music in the country, including data by state. This week, the resource underwent a third significant update, covering information up to 2022.
"The music industry as a whole generates over $212 billion per year for our GDP, supporting 2.5 million jobs and more than 252,000 music venues," said RIAA Chairman and CEO Mitch Glazer in a blog post announcing the innovations. "There are 1.6 million songwriters in the country, and over 250,000 artists receive royalties for their performances every year."
This update comes on the eve of key U.S. elections, including the presidential election, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 34 seats in the Senate. Thus, the "50 states of music" is becoming an important element of the music industry's lobbying efforts, especially in the context of artificial intelligence regulation.
