"Trust Your Instinct": Kylie Minogue on Her Career Lessons and Regrets

Kylie Minogue, the pop queen behind Padam Padam, recently shared some introspective thoughts about her career with The Sunday Times. At 56, the global pop icon admitted to a few career regrets, specifically around moments when she wishes she had trusted her instincts more. “I regret not speaking my mind on certain occasions, or feeling shy or not ready or not listening to my instinct,” Kylie shared, adding, “Shoulda, woulda, coulda. We can only keep moving forward.”

But if she could go back in time, Kylie says she’d tell her younger self to “trust her instincts” and, most importantly, to keep having fun. “If I could go back in time, I’d tell myself, ‘Trust your instinct.’ Which I still tell myself today because often there are other noises, or you’re unsure or you don’t listen to yourself,” she said. “Also I’d say, Have fun. There’s a lot to come, there will be a lot of obstacles and if you can’t go over them you’ll find a way under them or around them. You’ll find a way.” She’s especially proud of one achievement above all: simply keeping going, even through ups and downs.

Fans can feel her resilience and passion in her latest album, Tension, which she’ll be bringing to North America on her Tension Tour next spring—her first major run across the U.S. and Canada in 13 years. “I can’t wait to share beautiful and wild moments with fans all over the world, celebrating the Tension era and more” she teased, promising “beautiful and wild moments” as she celebrates this next chapter. With a blend of new hits and classic favorites, Kylie is ready to light up stages and show her fans what “Padaming” is all about: “It’s been an exhilarating ride so far and now, get ready for your close up because I will be calling Lights, Camera, Action … and there will be a whole lot of Padaming!”
