Google says YouTube Music is "driving subscription growth"

YouTube has achieved its second highest revenue quarter ever, reporting $8.92 billion in Q3 2024. Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai credits this success to YouTube Music's role in boosting subscription revenue and advancements in AI that enhance video recommendations.

Despite a 12.1% year-over-year revenue increase to $8.92 billion, this marks the second consecutive quarter of revenue decline for YouTube. Notably, the platform's total ad and subscription revenue surpassed $50 billion over the past year for the first time. Additionally, Google's subscription revenue from services like YouTube TV, Premium, Music, and NFL Sunday Ticket rose by 27.7% year-over-year to $10.66 billion.

Pichai emphasized that "YouTube TV, NFL Sunday Ticket, and YouTube Music are driving subscription growth," although he did not provide specifics on the individual service breakdown. Reports indicate that YouTube pays the NFL $2 billion annually for the Sunday Ticket, a partnership that appears beneficial for both sides. In September 2023, the NFL revealed that the Sunday Ticket offering on YouTube had more subscribers than it did on DirecTV the previous year.
