With Halloween wrapped up, Laufey has swiftly turned to Christmas vibes with her latest edition of A Very Laufey Holiday. This year, she’s dropped a jazz-infused cover of Santa Baby, originally made iconic by Eartha Kitt in 1953. Laufey’s version brings a smooth, modern twist to the classic, marking the fourth entry in her annual holiday collection.
The release is accompanied by a festive, elegant video featuring none other than Bill Murray as narrator. Also starring is Isabella Boylston, principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, who leads a stunning ballet performance choreographed by Alex Wong. Together, they create a whimsical, vintage feel in a visual story that perfectly complements Laufey’s cozy jazz rendition.
Laufey shared her excitement about the project, saying, “I’m so excited to continue adding to ‘A Very Laufey Holiday’ with my version of the Christmas classic, ‘Santa Baby’. It was so much fun creating this version, and the music video became the perfect visual representation of the track. Fans of Laufey’s holiday tunes can also look forward to a special treat this season: A Very Laufey Holiday will be available on vinyl for the first time.
The Icelandic-Chinese jazz singer has been steadily reviving jazz for younger generations. Speaking to NME last year, Laufey reflected on her goal of popularizing jazz in the same way Taylor Swift did for country music. “With every day, with every little achievement, I feel like I’m getting closer to that goal of bringing jazz back to my generation.”
