In early December, TikTok will host its inaugural TikTok Awards in the UK and Ireland, celebrating the achievements of content creators across various categories, including food, fashion, sports, travel, and art, with a special focus on music.
The ceremony will see six musicians competing for the coveted "Breakthrough Artist of the Year" award, determined by their rise in popularity on TikTok throughout 2024 and the success of their tracks, which have been widely used by other users in their videos.
Among the nominees are Jordan Adetunji, LeoStayTrill, Miles Smith, Nxdia, Artemas, and Rachel Chinouriri. Each of them captured viral attention last year; for instance, Adetunji's track "Kehlani" even prompted Kehlani herself to create a duet video, while Artemas gained popularity through the trend featuring "i like the way you kiss me."
The event will also feature a performance by the beloved group Sugababes, who, following their reunion in the original lineup, managed to attract over 98,000 followers on TikTok and accumulate 1.2 million likes. This event underscores TikTok's growing significance as a platform for discovering and promoting musical talent, highlighting the transformative effect of social media on the music industry and artists' careers.
