Lady Gaga Unveils Ambitious New Album Project, Mastering "The Art of Intensity"

Lady Gaga is on the brink of another musical evolution. The pop superstar revealed that her new music, currently in the works, delves into the "art of intensity" and is "nothing like anything I’ve ever made before."

Gaga shared these insights at the premiere of her new concert film, Gaga Chromatica Ball, in Los Angeles on May 23. Directed and produced by Gaga herself, the film captures her electrifying performance at Dodgers Stadium in September 2022. It premiered on HBO Max today, though a UK release date remains unconfirmed.

During a Q&A session with Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans, Gaga revealed that she has been tirelessly working in the studio "every single day," crafting music that represents a significant departure from her previous work.

“I have written so many songs, I’ve been producing so many songs, and it’s nothing like anything that I’ve ever made before,” she said. “I love to break genre and I love to explore music. There’s something really beautiful and knowing that you will be loved no matter what you do.”

Gaga also mentioned that this creative phase began during her Chromatica tour in 2022. “Something I’m definitely exploring right now is sort of the art of intensity and I think that the art of intensity actually began during this tour. But I’m not done with it yet,” she explained.

Earlier this year, Gaga hinted at new music, describing it as some of her best work in recent memory. She also announced a return to her "Jazz & Piano" residency in Las Vegas, a series she first launched in 2019. This year’s residency will kick off in June and run through July, with remaining tickets available for purchase.

Reflecting on the tour while sharing a trailer for the new film on Instagram, Gaga wrote: “Revisiting the tour leaves me speechless the way we had each other – you all showed up for music and art in a big way, and with a level of excitement and freedom that I will never forget. Stadium after stadium. Sold out crowds. The deafening singalongs.”

At the premiere, Gaga also disclosed that she contracted COVID-19 during five shows on the Chromatica Ball tour in 2022. “I shared it with everyone on my team. I said, ‘I don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable at work and you don’t have to perform and you don’t have to work that day, but I’m going to do the show’ because I just didn’t want to let all the fans down,” she said. “And the way that I saw it also is like the fans were all putting themselves in harm’s way every day coming to the show.”

The last time Gaga released music as a solo artist was in 2020 with the album Chromatica, which was conceived as a dance-pop album. Major hits from the album included "Rain On Me" (a collaboration with Ariana Grande) and "Stupid Love."
