Billie Eilish Reflects on Fellow Pop Stars’ Success and Struggles with Fame

Billie Eilish recently opened up about the success of her fellow pop stars, including Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter, during an interview with the LA Times. The ‘Birds Of A Feather’ singer, joined by her brother and collaborator Finneas, discussed how she feels about the rise of her pop peers and the pressures that come with stardom.

“Are you kidding me? I’m so happy for these bitches,” Eilish said when asked if she felt threatened by their success. “It’s a crazy world when you get to the level they’re experiencing right now, and they’re doing great. Fans are drawn to them because they’re f**king awesome.”

The trio has been praised by producer Jack Antonoff, who dubbed this year “artist development summer” after the rapid rise of their fanbases. Eilish, no stranger to sudden fame, recalled her own experience of adjusting to life in the spotlight: “I thought, this is just how my life is gonna be... I’ll never get to go outside again, and I’ll never feel like a person ever again. Every room is gonna be, ‘It’s Billie Eilish!’ and that’s gonna make me eventually kill myself.”

Roan, who’s been candid about her own challenges with fame, likened it to “an abusive ex-husband,” while revealing she’s been diagnosed with severe depression, partly due to the pressures of her career. Eilish, showing sympathy for Roan’s situation, said: “It’s hard out here, man, it’s hard.”

The pressures of fame have also pushed Eilish to distance herself from discussions about her personal life. “I never want to talk about my sexuality ever, ever, ever again,” she said, referring to the media storm that followed a Variety interview last year.

Sabrina Carpenter, on the other hand, revealed that Taylor Swift gave her advice on how to navigate fame, urging her to find a supportive inner circle. Meanwhile, Charli XCX recently celebrated the release of her remix album Brat And it’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat with an intimate listening party in New York.
