Roger Taylor Hints at New Queen Music

Could we be on the verge of new Queen material? It’s been almost three decades since the band’s final studio album, Made In Heaven (1995), which was released posthumously following Freddie Mercury’s passing in 1991. But now, drummer Roger Taylor has teased that there could be more music to come.

In a recent interview with Uncut, Taylor revealed that both he and Brian May have been discussing the possibility of creating new material. “We were talking the other day, and we both said that if we feel we have some good material, why not? We can still play. We can still sing. So I don’t see why not,” Taylor shared, sparking excitement among Queen fans.

Since Mercury’s death, Queen has experienced a new era with Adam Lambert taking over vocal duties in 2011. They’ve toured the world, most recently wrapping up their massive ‘Rhapsody Tour’ in Tokyo earlier this year. While new music has remained scarce, Queen surprised listeners in 2022 by sharing Face It Alone, a rediscovered track featuring Mercury’s unmistakable voice.

Despite the excitement, Adam Lambert remains cautiously optimistic about recording new material with the band, acknowledging the immense pressure. “If they’re going to put something out that’s new, it’s got to be at a certain level,” Lambert said. “I feel like it scares me.”

Brian May echoed this sentiment last year, noting that while the band has “dabbled” in the studio with Lambert, nothing has quite hit the mark yet. “It would have to be something so special,” May said, “that we would feel we would want to launch it on the public.”

Whether or not new music is on the horizon, one thing is clear—Queen’s legacy is still very much alive. With Queen Extravaganza, their official tribute band, set to embark on a UK and Ireland tour in 2025 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bohemian Rhapsody, and a remastered reissue of Queen’s self-titled 1973 debut on the way, the band’s influence on rock remains timeless.
