Queen's Brian May Reacts to Aerosmith's Retirement: "It Brought a Tear to My Eye"

In a heartfelt message, Queen's legendary guitarist Brian May responded to the news of Aerosmith's retirement, sharing his emotional reaction with fans. The announcement came on Friday (August 2), when Aerosmith confirmed via social media that they had cancelled their "Peace Out" farewell tour due to frontman Steven Tyler’s vocal injury, ultimately deciding to retire from touring.

The tour, which began last year, saw the band perform only three shows before Tyler injured his larynx, forcing the rescheduling of the remaining dates. Despite Tyler's efforts to recover, Aerosmith stated, "Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible."

Brian May took to Instagram shortly after Aerosmith’s announcement, posting a photo of their statement along with a heartfelt caption: "This has brought a tear to my eye. Aerosmith have been a huge part of my life, as they have been for millions of other rock fans. Steve Tyler stands as one the greatest vocalists and frontmen of all time – and it’s heartbreaking that his extraordinary voice has been so damaged."

May praised the band's decision to retire, calling it a move made with "pure class." He celebrated Aerosmith's legacy, stating, "The career of Aerosmith is truly something to celebrate forever. All things must pass – but the inspiring work of Aerosmith will live on – along with the memories of truly one of the most awesome bands to ever hit a stage."

In addition to Aerosmith's retirement news, May recently reflected on Freddie Mercury's last days, emphasizing Mercury's resilience and determination. "Freddy was always inspiring. If he was here now, we’d be doing what we always do I’m sure," May shared.
