Nicki Minaj is taking things to the next level. On September 16, the rap icon took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that her planned deluxe edition of Pink Friday 2 has been scrapped in favor of an entirely new project: Pink Friday 3.
Initially, Minaj promised that the deluxe version of Pink Friday 2, set for release on September 13, would include three to seven new tracks. After a delay, she decided to cancel the deluxe version altogether, with some of the new songs making their way onto Pink Friday 3 instead.
On social media, Minaj revealed her decision: “Instead of doing a DELUXE to Pink Friday 2, I’ve decided to do a brand new album. I’ll still incorporate new songs like #Mamita and [The ‘anxiety’ song] for the remainder of the tour tho…and I’ll announce the new date within the next couple of weeks.”
She also teased that her latest recordings are too iconic for a deluxe edition: “The new music is just too good to be thrown away on a deluxe album. Last night, the songs I recorded were just way too iconic. I love you guys so much. You know that. I know you do. I’ll still give you something leading up to the announcement, so no worries.”
Minaj hyped up her fans, saying: “PF3 is about to do PRECISELY wtf BEEN needed to be done. TRUST ME BARBZ. I’M SO EXCITED. BLESSED. LOVED (by the Barbz) & fortunately (for the Barbz & me), I’ve learned A LOT since 12/08/23.”
Earlier this year, Nicki embarked on the UK and European leg of her Pink Friday 2 world tour, including a major show at London’s O2 Arena. Now, she’s hitting North America with her ‘Gag City Reloaded’ dates.
