Chris Hemsworth Joins Ed Sheeran as Surprise Drummer in Romania

In an unexpected twist, Chris Hemsworth surprised a crowd of 70,000 at Ed Sheeran's concert in Romania by taking the stage as a guest drummer. The event, held at The National Arena on August 24, had been in the works since last December, as Hemsworth revealed in a video on Instagram.

The Avengers star reached out to Sheeran via email, expressing his desire to perform as part of his show, Limitless With Chris Hemsworth, which is currently filming its second season. The show explores Hemsworth trying out new experiences, and this time it led him to the drums.

Hemsworth, who had been practicing for months, played during Sheeran’s performance of "Thinking Out Loud," much to the delight of the Bucharest crowd. After the show, Sheeran praised Hemsworth’s efforts, even presenting him with a tongue-in-cheek "drumming excellence" award.

Sheeran is currently wrapping up his last dates for 2024, culminating in a headlining set at Rock in Rio in Brazil next month. The singer-songwriter will then embark on his ‘Mathematics’ tour in Europe next summer.

During its first season, it was revealed through genetic tests that the actor possesses a genetic disposition for Alzheimer’s disease – this has since fuelled the show’s premise in an effort to raise awareness for the condition.

“It really kind of pissed me off because it felt like I had been vulnerable with something personal and shared this,” he said. “No matter how much I said ‘This is not a death sentence,’ the story became that I have dementia and I’m reconsidering life and retiring and so on.”

Hemsworth then recalled seeing a witty comment online related to the news of his predisposition: “I did read a really funny comment at the bottom of one article: ‘I hope Chris forgets he’s retiring and comes back.’” Later that month, Hemsworth received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
