JYP Entertainment Takes Strong Legal Action Against Deepfake Creators

JYP Entertainment has announced its intent to pursue aggressive legal action against those responsible for creating and distributing deepfake videos involving members of TWICE and other artists under its label.

In a statement released on August 31 via the fan community app FANS, the K-pop giant expressed deep concern over the growing spread of AI-generated deepfake videos that exploit the likeness of their artists. The label condemned the practice as a severe violation of the law and stated that it is currently gathering evidence to support their case. JYP emphasized that they are working with a leading law firm to ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law, with no leniency.

JYP's statement underscored their unwavering commitment to protecting their artists, saying, "We want to make it clear that we will not stand by while our artists’ rights are violated and will take decisive action to address this matter to the fullest extent possible."

This announcement comes amid a broader crackdown on deepfake crimes in South Korea, where authorities have recently intensified efforts to combat the disturbing trend of using K-pop idols' faces in explicit content. According to recent reports, South Korea has become a primary target for deepfake pornography, with the majority of victims being teenagers. The situation has prompted other agencies, including those representing former IZ*ONE member Kwon Eun-bi and NewJeans, to issue similar warnings and promises of legal action.
