Green Day Announces 20th Anniversary Reissue of "American Idiot"

Green Day is bringing back the rebellious spirit of "American Idiot" with a 20th-anniversary reissue that’s packed with exclusive content. The pop-punk legends have announced the release of a “limited edition super deluxe box set” of their iconic 2004 album, slated to drop on October 25.

Fans can dive into the nostalgia with 8LP vinyl and 4CD versions, each bundled with two Blu-ray discs. For collectors, there’s also a limited edition color vinyl of the original 2LP ‘American Idiot’.

To kick off the celebration, Green Day has already shared some teasers on streaming platforms today (August 9). You can now listen to the previously unreleased "Holiday/Boulevard Of Broken Dreams (Demo)", the fan-favorite B-side "Favorite Son", and "Minority (Live From Irving Plaza)".

The box sets are a treasure trove for Green Day enthusiasts, featuring 15 unreleased "American Idiot" demos, a full 15-track 2004 live show from New York’s Irving Plaza, nine unreleased live tracks—including a cover of Queen’s "We Are The Champions"—and 14 tracks previously only available as B-Sides and bonus tracks.

One of the Blu-rays will include a brand-new, 110-minute documentary titled "20 Years Of American Idiot." The other disc offers the "Heart Like A Hand Grenade" film, giving fans an intimate look at Green Day’s recording process during the creation of "American Idiot".

Additionally, the box set includes some special ‘BBC Live’ performances, such as appearances on "Top Of The Pops and Later… With Jools Holland." The vinyl edition comes with a 36-page book, a Green Day flag, and the iconic "American Idiot" red tie, while the CD version adds a 48-page book, an enamel pin set, a sticker sheet, and a cloth patch.

The anniversary edition is completed with new liner notes written by Rob Cavallo and Rolling Stone’s David Fricke, offering a deeper insight into the album’s legacy.

Produced by Rob Cavallo and Green Day, "American Idiot" topped the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart, selling over 23 million copies worldwide. The album not only earned a Grammy for Best Rock Album but also inspired a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical.

To honor this milestone, Green Day has been performing "American Idiot" in its entirety during their 2024 "Saviors" world tour.
