Nine Inch Nails to Score Upcoming Sci-Fi Epic Tron: Ares

The iconic industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails is stepping into the neon-soaked world of Tron. Announced during Disney's D23 Expo on Friday (Aug. 9), the band’s frontman Trent Reznor and longtime collaborator Atticus Ross revealed that they will be composing the score for the highly anticipated film Tron: Ares.

This marks a historic moment for Reznor and Ross, as it’s the first time their film music will be officially credited under the Nine Inch Nails name. The duo, known for their Oscar-winning work on The Social Network and the haunting score of Soul, is set to bring their signature electronic soundscapes to the third installment of the Tron franchise.

Tron: Ares, starring Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Jeff Bridges, Greta Lee, and Jodie Turner-Smith, is directed by Joachim Rønning and continues the legacy of the 2010 film Tron: Legacy, which was famously scored by Daft Punk. The reveal at D23 was nothing short of electrifying—a red laser cut through the darkness, illuminating the iconic NIN logo, much to the excitement of the crowd.

In addition to scoring the film, Nine Inch Nails will also contribute new songs to the Tron: Ares soundtrack, adding another layer of intensity to the movie’s futuristic vision. Scheduled for release on October 10, 2025, Tron: Ares is poised to be a cutting-edge exploration of technology, AI, and the ever-blurring line between humanity and the digital world.

Fans of NIN can look forward to a sonic experience that merges the band’s dark, industrial roots with the sleek, cyberpunk aesthetics of the Tron universe. With this collaboration, Reznor and Ross are set to redefine what a film score can be, taking audiences on an audio-visual journey that’s as immersive as it is innovative.
