Elton Dethroned: Coldplay’s Tour Becomes Highest-Grossing in Rock History

Coldplay has officially set a new benchmark in the world of live music. Their ongoing "Music of the Spheres" tour has now claimed the title of the highest-grossing rock tour ever, according to Billboard Boxscore. With a staggering $945.7 million in earnings and 8.8 million tickets sold since its launch in March 2022, this tour has rocketed past all previous records.

The British band has toppled the previous record held by Sir Elton John’s legendary "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour, which grossed $939 million over five years and 328 shows. Before Elton, Ed Sheeran’s "The Divide Tour" held the record, having dethroned U2’s iconic "The 360 Tour."

Despite Coldplay’s unprecedented success, the band is unlikely to surpass Taylor Swift’s monumental "Eras Tour," which has already become the first tour to cross the $1 billion mark. Taylor’s tour has not only shattered records but also captured the collective imagination of fans worldwide.

The "Music of the Spheres" tour isn’t just breaking financial records; it’s also setting a new standard for sustainability in the music industry. The tour has already reduced its CO2e emissions by 59% compared to Coldplay’s last stadium tour in 2016-2017, surpassing their original goal of a 50% reduction. Additionally, the band has planted 7 million trees worldwide, fulfilling their promise to plant a tree for every attendee.

On the creative front, Coldplay has revealed the full tracklist for their upcoming 10th studio album, ‘Moon Music.’ The album, described as a continuation of 2021’s ‘Music of the Spheres,’ features collaborations with artists like Little Simz, Burna Boy, and Elyanna. The band gave fans a taste of the new music at Glastonbury, debuting the track "We Pray" live.
