Aphex Twin Surprises Fans by DJing at an Intimate Wedding

In a twist that no one saw coming, electronic music legend Aphex Twin took on the role of wedding DJ this past weekend. Videos surfaced on TikTok and Twitter/X showing the iconic artist, real name Richard David James, spinning tracks for an intimate crowd of less than 100 people. Despite the small gathering, Aphex Twin didn’t skimp on his signature flair, delivering a set complete with his trademark mind-bending visuals.

The surprise appearance wasn’t just a random gig. According to a TikTok attendee, James has been friends with the groom for years and offered his DJ skills as a wedding gift. Among the tracks he played was ‘The Bells’ by British drum and bass producer Jonny L, adding a special touch to an already unforgettable night.

Joining Aphex Twin on the wedding reception lineup were British electronic musician Luke Vibert and a DJ from the London-based label futureRetro, making the night a true celebration of underground electronic music.

In other news, Aphex Twin is set to release an expanded edition of his classic album "Selected Ambient Works Volume II." The reissue, which drops on October 4 via Warp, includes a host of special features, including a fold-out poster, sticker sheet, and a booklet filled with artwork sketches by Paul Nicholson. Each edition comes in a unique, made-to-order oak case with an etched copper plate, available as a 4-LP set, 3-CD set, or a deluxe 4-LP box set.

This announcement follows Aphex Twin’s recent clarification on his stance regarding vaccines after an old ID3 tag with controversial comments resurfaced. James addressed the issue on Soundcloud, emphasizing that while he’s not against vaccines in principle, he believes in evaluating them individually and making personal decisions.

Just last year, Aphex Twin also dropped his first new music in five years, the EP "Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760," proving that he remains a vital force in electronic music.
