Chappell Roan Chooses Music Over Movies: I would rather get arrested

In a candid interview with Interview Magazine, rising pop star Chappell Roan made it clear that acting isn’t on her agenda—ever. When asked by Bowen Yang if she would consider pivoting to acting as a break from the rigors of touring, Roan didn’t mince words. “I’d rather get arrested,” she declared, revealing that she’s already turned down multiple lead roles in films.

Roan explained her aversion to the film industry, calling actors “f**king crazy” and admitting that she finds the film world unsettling. “I get so freaked out by film people. I’ve been asked in the past couple of weeks, like, ‘You want the lead in XYZ?’ and I’m like, ‘No.’”

Interestingly, Roan originally pursued music as a stepping stone to an acting career. But after moving to Los Angeles, she quickly changed her mind, finding the industry “legitimately scary” and far too controlling. “I can put out music whenever I want. I don’t have to wait for a casting director to decide my schedule for the next three months.”

Although Roan isn’t completely shutting the door on acting, she made it clear that any potential roles would have to be “really specific and really silly.” Even though she’s trained in acting, the pressure is too much for her. “It’s the most stressful thing in the world to me. I would rather get arrested… because I know how to operate myself in jail.”

Beyond her thoughts on acting, Roan has recently been vocal about “creepy” fan behavior. In a series of TikTok videos, she expressed her discomfort with entitled fans who cross boundaries. “I don’t give a f**k if you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo or for your time or for a hug. That’s not normal. That’s weird,” she said, emphasizing her right to set boundaries.

Roan’s frankness is nothing new. She previously mentioned that she’d quit music if “weird sh*t” began to affect her or her family. Despite the challenges of fame, Roan continues to rise in the music world. Her debut album, ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess,’ has earned critical acclaim, and she recently celebrated her first UK Number One album nearly a year after its release. Roan’s latest single, "Good Luck, Babe!," also made waves, hitting Number One in the Spotify Hits United States Weekly Chart.
