Charli XCX's Remix Album Spares James Blunt From Hilarious Name Change

Charli XCX has claimed her second UK Number One album with Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat, a fully remixed version of her 2023 album Brat. The album climbed to the top of the UK charts on October 18, beating out tough competition from Paul Heaton’s The Mighty Several, which landed in second place.

This victory also means that James Blunt, whose Back to Bedlam re-release only made it to Number Seven, avoids having to change his name to "Blunty McBluntface," a name suggested by the public if his album had hit the top spot. Blunt, ever the joker, shared a video of himself celebrating the news, feigning disappointment before jumping on his sofa in relief.

Charli XCX’s remix album, which deconstructs and reimagines the original Brat in playful and daring ways, has received massive praise for its creativity. At a recent listening party, Charli explained her love for remix culture, saying, “It’s really cool to show the infinite possibilities of dance music. Why not take one tiny production element or lyric and completely deconstruct it to make something new? It’s like to me, when a song comes out when you make a song, there’s still so many different versions of that song that could be made using just a tiny element of production from the original or a tiny reference to a lyrical concept or a literal lyric. I just feel it could all be completely deconstructed and then put back together again you know? like why not?”

Charli’s second chart-topping album follows the success of her 2022 record Crash, further solidifying her place as a boundary-pushing pop innovator. As she tours with Troye Sivan, Charli continues to thrill fans, even bringing Kesha on stage for a wild performance of “Spring Breakers” in California this week.

Meanwhile, Paul Heaton congratulated Charli on her success with a humorous tweet, calling himself "Brat, but @charli_xcx is Bratter" and thanking fans for taking The Mighty Several to a strong second-place finish.
