Elton John's Life Story Comes to Disney+ in New Documentary

Disney+ has just dropped the first trailer for Elton John: Never Too Late, an in-depth documentary set to take fans on a journey through the legendary singer’s career. The film delves into his meteoric rise to fame, the darker chapters of his life, his battle with addiction, and his inspiring road to recovery.

In the emotional trailer, Elton reflects on his struggles, saying, “At that time, there was an emptiness within me. My soul had gone dark, I had gone dark. I wasn’t a joy to be around. I didn’t have anything apart from my success and my drugs.”

The documentary follows Elton as he prepared for his final North American stadium show at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium in November 2022, which was also livestreamed globally on Disney+. Never Too Late is scheduled to premiere on December 13.

The film promises to reveal sides of Elton John fans have never seen before, featuring rare footage from his concerts over the past 50 years, personal handwritten notes, and present-day moments with his family.

Elton’s farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which ran from 2018 to 2023, broke records with over $900 million in gross ticket sales. The iconic tour, which wrapped up in Stockholm last year, was the highest-grossing of all time until it was surpassed by Taylor Swift’s Eras tour and Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres tour.

At his final show, Elton expressed his gratitude to his fans: “Fifty years of pure joy playing music… how lucky am I? I wouldn’t be sitting here… it wasn’t for you. You bought the singles, the CDs, the albums, the cassettes… [and] more importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows. You know how much I love to play live. It’s been my lifeblood to play for you guys. You’ve been absolutely magnificent.”

But Elton John’s story isn’t over yet. His longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin revealed earlier this year that John’s 32nd studio album is “all done and recorded,” and the star himself has recently celebrated 34 years of sobriety, saying that “my life has never been better.”
