Bruce Springsteen Confirms Two-Year Songwriting Break

Bruce Springsteen has revealed that he hasn’t written a new song in over two years, but fans shouldn't worry – The Boss is far from slowing down. Despite not releasing original material since 2022’s Only The Strong Survive, a collection of soul and R&B covers, Springsteen has been anything but idle.

After spending the past two years on an extensive world tour, battling health challenges, and receiving the prestigious Fellow of the Ivors Academy award, Springsteen is now set to premiere a new documentary. Titled Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the Disney+ and Hulu project promises an inside look at the creation of his legendary live performances.

While Springsteen admits that new songs haven’t flowed as easily lately, with none written in the past two years, he remains undeterred. “Songs don’t come that often,” he shared, adding that he’s content to go long periods without writing. This creative slowdown contrasts with the rapid process behind his 2020 album Letter To You, which he famously wrote in just two weeks as a tribute to late bandmate George Theiss.

Though fans may have to wait a bit longer for fresh tracks, Springsteen’s passion for touring shows no signs of fading. Addressing rumors of a farewell tour during a recent Philadelphia concert, he was adamant: “I’m not goin’ anywhere... We’ve been around for 50 f**kin’ years, and we ain’t quitting! We ain’t doing no farewell tour bullsh*t! Jesus Christ! No farewell tour for the E Street Band!”

Backed by E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt, who teased more live shows on the horizon, it’s clear that Springsteen and his iconic band plan to keep rocking stages worldwide for years to come. After a triumphant European tour this summer, extra dates have been added for 2025, including stops in Manchester and Liverpool.
