Chris Martin Opens Up About Creativity in an Impromptu Park Interview

Coldplay’s frontman, Chris Martin, surprised fans with an impromptu interview in New York’s Washington Square Park recently. The spontaneous chat happened when Dutch music journalist Sagid Carter, known for her new YouTube interview series, approached Martin for a quick interview while he was hanging out with his manager, Phil Harvey.

In the light-hearted conversation, Martin laughed and remarked, “This is really funny, we met what, 45 seconds ago?” before diving into discussions about his creative journey and Coldplay’s future. He shared how he’s learned to trust his own creative voice, saying, “Inside us all is a voice, which is sort of a creative voice or guiding voice or intuition – whatever you call it – if you can always try and listen to that at some point during the day.”

Earlier he reflected to NME on how his artistic choices since 2008 have been guided by this philosophy, largely thanks to producer Brian Eno’s influence. “Right now, and since about 2008, if something lands in me as a song or as a good idea and it feels authentic, we’ll do it,” he added.

Looking ahead, Martin confirmed that Coldplay’s plan to wrap up their recorded catalogue after 12 albums remains intact. “The 12 album thing is very real, and it’s a nice feeling. It doesn’t mean we won’t tour or finish some compilation things or outtakes or whatever. It just means that the main story is told. That’s just what feels really right. Just knowing that’s happening supercharges all the work we’re doing now,” he said, emphasizing that they’re more determined than ever to ensure every track they release is purposeful and authentic.

With Coldplay’s latest album Moon Music already making waves, fans can expect even more from the band as they approach this final chapter, with Martin reassuring everyone that “everything will make sense” by the end.
